British middleweight boxer Sherif Lawal died after collapsing during his professional debut on Sunday.

Fight organizers announced his death, which occurred after the 29-year-old was struck on the temple by his opponent Malam Varela in the fourth round at London’s Harrow Leisure Centre.

“Unfortunately during Sheriff’s fight, he collapsed and despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was later pronounced dead,” promoter Warren Boxing Management said in a statement via Reuters.

“Warren Boxing management would like to express its condolences to Sheriff’s family, friends, coaches and all those close to him at this tragic time.”

The British Boxing Board of Control said: “The thoughts of everyone associated with boxing in Great Britain are with him at this difficult time.”

The first fight on Sunday’s card was between Laval and Varela.

He had to take six rounds in his match.

It is an unfortunate truth that deaths in the boxing ring are not uncommon.

In 2019, New York Chicago native Patrick Day died after suffering an injury during a 2019 match.

Day collapsed during the 10th round of their bout and went into a coma following brain surgery.

However, he will never regain consciousness.

Charles Conwell, an Olympic boxer whom Day faced, said in an open letter to Day and his loved ones that while he was in a coma, he “shed so many tears because I couldn’t imagine what my family and friends were going through.” How will it feel?”

No additional details regarding Lawal’s death were revealed.
