In a two-page open letter titled “My warning to Prajwal Revanna”, the 91-year-old politician claimed that he was not aware of the alleged activities of his grandson, who is also the sitting MP of Hassan. In a long but emotional letter, he said, “People have used the harshest words against me and my family in the last few weeks. I am aware of this. I don’t want to offend them. I don’t want to criticise them. I will not try to argue with them that they should have waited until all the facts were out. I also cannot convince people that I was unaware of Prajwal’s activities. I cannot convince them that I did not wish to protect him. I cannot convince them that I was not aware of his activities and that I was not aware of his foreign travel. I believe in listening to one’s conscience. I believe in God and I know that the Almighty knows the truth.”

Deve Gowda warned Prajwal, who fled the country about a month ago, to return if he has any respect for his grandfather. He further wrote, “I can do only one thing. I can give a stern warning to Prajwal and tell him to return from wherever he is and surrender to the police. He should subject himself to the legal process. This is not an appeal that I am making, it is a warning that I am issuing.

Deve Gowda also told Prajwal that disobeying the family members would result in complete separation. “If he does not heed this warning he will have to face the wrath of me and all his family members. The law will take notice of the allegations against them, but not listening to the family will ensure their complete isolation. If he has any respect left for me, he will have to return immediately,” he said.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister also stressed that he would not try to influence the investigation in any way.
