Jamie Ray Mills was executed by lethal injection in Alabama

An Alabama man was executed Thursday for the 2004 murders of an elderly couple who were beaten to death and robbed of $140 and some prescription medication.

Jamie Ray Mills, 50, died by lethal injection at 6:26 p.m., becoming the second inmate executed this year in the state and the sixth in the nation. At least 10 more executions are scheduled for the rest of 2024, including two more in Alabama.

Marty Roney, a reporter for the USA Today Network’s Montgomery Advertiser, was one of the witnesses to Mills’ execution and said it went according to the state’s plan. He said there appeared to be no problems or issues in administering the lethal injection.
