Police clear pro-Palestinian camp at Wayne State

Critics of Wayne State’s ties to Israel continued protesting Thursday morning, even as the university cleared out a pro-Palestinian camp that had been in place for the past week.

After the camp was removed about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, a group of about 50 protesters gathered on the sidewalk at Anthony Wayne Drive and Williams Mall and continued chanting, standing in the face of more than a dozen Wayne State police officers wearing riot gear. The group resumed a peaceful protest around the block from the camp at 8:15 a.m. on the lawn of State Hall.

Four protesters were detained, including one who broke away from the protest group and attempted to remove police tape. It was unclear why the other three were detained.
