Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns DLC Revealed, Includes Ghostface, T-1000, and Female Sector and Cyrax | SDCC 2024

Mortal Kombat 1 continues its bloody cascade of post-launch DLC, with a list of new crossover fighters that includes Ghostface from Scream, Robert Patrick’s T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian.

Developer NetherRealm revealed the lineup of six new fighters during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 today. Along with gameplay, we have first look photos of each DLC fighter joining the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. The DLC, called Khaos Reigns, includes the three aforementioned movie representatives, as well as Noob Saibot, Sektor, and Cyrax. It will launch digitally on September 24 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).

Like many characters from the alternate universe that is Mortal Kombat 1, Noob Saibot, voiced by Kaiji Tang, is getting a new look. However, Sektor and Cyrax have seen the biggest changes, as NetherRealm has revealed that both characters are female in this universe. Sektor’s voice actor Erika Ishii has also said that her character is not a robot like in previous entries, but a human this time. Cyrax is voiced by Enuka Okuma.

According to publisher Warner Bros. Games, the story of Khaos Reigns is as follows:

After Fire Lord Liu Kang repelled the invaders threatening the new era of peace, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expands the story campaign with an all-new cinematic plot. When a dangerous threat arrives from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik whose sole mission is to throw the kingdoms into Khaos, Liu Kang must assemble his champions and rely on his enemies to defeat this grave threat. If they fail, the new era will descend into chaos.

Joining a growing list of playable combatants, Kombat Pack 2 includes returning combatants Noob Saibot, voiced by Kaiji Tang; Cyrax, voiced by Enuka Okuma; and Sektor, voiced by Erika Ishii, all with unique backstories that are part of the revamped Mortal Kombat 1 universe. As Sub-Zero, Bi-Han was the ruthless grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, but his soul was stolen by the Titan Havik, creating the perfect henchman, Noob Saibot, now dedicated to promoting chaos. Born into the Zaki, one of the Lin Kuei’s many sub-clans, Cyrax became a martial arts genius with an independent streak and an unquenchable desire to serve the clan on his own terms, or not at all. Raised in Lin Kuei culture under the tutelage of her parents, Sektor becomes a skilled armorer, accomplished warrior, and Sub-Zero’s most trusted lieutenant, committed to advancing the clan’s future at any cost.

Ghostface is a character who has had almost the same look in every movie he has appeared in, so it’s no surprise to see him here with slight changes. Terminators, on the other hand, come in many shapes and sizes, with NetherRealm adapting Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character for DLC in Mortal Kombat 11. Patrick provided the voice work and likeness for Khaos Raines, while Conan brought back Schwarzenegger’s appearance for another round.

At the moment it’s unclear when each of Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 2 fighters will be released. It’s also unclear when more gameplay will be released or how NetherRealm has chosen to tackle each of its inevitably bloody Fatalities.

Unfortunately, every character in Khaos Reigns Kombat Pack 2 was already known a month prior to today’s SDCC reveal thanks to a datamine leak. Still, the official announcement brings a fresh look at how these characters will be portrayed, with NetherRealm also confirming that longtime Scream actor, Roger L. Jackson, will voice Ghostface. Arnold Schwarzenegger does not do voice work for Conan.

Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 2 continues the studio’s trend of including crossover characters. In addition to other classic fighters, Kombat Pack 1 introduced some less-known comic book characters, including Homelander from The Boys and Omni-Man from Invincible. SDCC is still going on, so be sure to keep up with all the announcements here.
