Two ODM leaders have criticised a section of leaders of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition for allegedly plotting to remove Raila Odinga from the coalition’s leadership.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Kasipul MP Ongondo Were accused Azimio leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka of allegedly plotting to overthrow Odinga.

Speaking at Agoro Sare Primary School during the distribution of three school buses purchased by Kasipul NG-CDF, Wanga said the press conference held by a group of Azimio leaders led by Musyoka on Thursday hinted at a coup against Odinga’s leadership.

Musyoka held the press conference on behalf of the Azimio coalition in Odinga’s absence. The ODM and NARC-Kenya parties did not attend the conference.

The conference came at a time when NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua was preparing to withdraw from the coalition.

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni announced that they had decided to have Musyoka lead their coalition, allowing Odinga to continue his campaign for the presidency of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Wanga criticised the Azimio leaders’ proposal, arguing that it effectively removed Odinga from his position as coalition leader.

“The Azimio team held a meeting on Thursday and reading their statement it seems they have removed Raila from the leadership of the coalition. In fact, they are doing this under the pretext that Raila is joining the AUC,” Wanga said.

He argued that the decision by the Azimio team to appoint Musyoka as their leader was akin to inheriting a living person’s wife.

“The decision that Raila will no longer be the Azimio leader is a coup and we oppose it,” Wanga said.

The governor reaffirmed that he is still part of Azimio as a member of ODM and warned against causing unnecessary tensions in the coalition.

He said they are supporting Raila in leading the national dialogue to ensure peace in the country and anyone who opposes the dialogue between the ODM leader and President William Ruto is not good for the people of Kenya.

He said ODM members who have been nominated as Cabinet secretaries should not be harassed by anybody.

Were said, “The government belongs to all Kenyans and the ODM members who have been named as Cabinet secretaries deserve these positions. We congratulate them and encourage them to use their positions to better serve the citizens of this country.”
