Malema ‘might jump off nearest cliff’ after Oppenheimer claim

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has criticised Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, saying the party was formed by Oppenheimer because it received donations from the family.

Malema made the remarks during a media briefing on Thursday night.

“The IFP is no organisation apart from Oppenheimer’s. He is the one who created it! Who in their right mind would give Hlabisa 20 million rand? Because he himself cannot talk about that 20 million rand. So, why would anyone say that there is 20 million rand for Hlabisa? What does that have to do with it?”

IFP spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa rejected Malema’s claims.

“Julius can jump off any nearby cliff. In fact, he is a threat to society. He is a threat to our democracy. He is a threat to the peace and stability that we are trying to build. He thrives on inciting violence and he is someone who has no regard for the collective interests of this country.”

“This man has been rejected by the voters, going from 44 seats to 39 and in KwaZulu-Natal he went from eight to two. Yet he feels he has this pressure to come out and make demands on everybody that are not constructive,” Hlengwa said.

‘He hasn’t announced his whereabouts’

Hlengwa claims the EFF leader is a “disgraceful person”.

“He comes and calls us the Oppenheimer Party, just because we have received money from Oppenheimer – by the way, we have declared that, because we have nothing to hide.

“He has not declared what he says. He should tell us how much money he gets from the tobacco smuggling that is happening in this country. So clearly, we have no care or concern about what he says, what he does and who he talks to,” Hlengwa said.

Last month, IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa said she did not understand why people were scrutinising the IFP over the Oppenheimer donations, when several political parties have received money from the same family.
