Portugal vs France LIVE: Score and latest goal updates from Euro 2024 quarter-finals

The second quarter-final of Euro 2024 is another blockbuster encounter pitting 2018 World Cup winners France against 2016 European champions Portugal.

Didier Deschamps’ side have managed to reach the last-eight without conceding a goal from open play. Two own goals and a penalty from Kylian Mbappe have been enough to see them through to challenging matches against Austria, the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium. Their narrow win over Belgium in the last-16 lacked quality and excitement, although the French side will be buoyed by a number of missed chances and the fact that Mbappe has yet to regain his form since suffering a broken nose.

In comparison, Portugal had to go through a penalty shootout to beat Slovenia in the round of 16. Roberto Martinez’s side struggled to create chances in their first knockout match, with Cristiano Ronaldo in particular missing good opportunities, including a penalty miss in extra time.

This match will be a battle of generations with Mbappe facing off against Ronaldo, yet both teams know that improvements are needed if they are to get the job done tonight.

One thing about Ronaldo’s one-on-one performance against Saliba is that even at 39, he can never win this battle, as seen just now when Fernandes headed the ball forward and Saliba saved with ease.
