Ryan Garcia charged with vandalism following June arrest

Ryan Garcia has been charged with one count of vandalism following his arrest on June 8 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Beverly Hills.

“While we are grateful that there were no injuries in this incident, the reckless behavior that caused property damage shows a blatant and unacceptable disregard for the safety and peace of our community,” Gascón said. “Our office will work to ensure that the individual responsible is held accountable.”

The charge against Garcia is a misdemeanor of “vandalism causing damage or destruction of property valued at $400 or more” and “it is also alleged that the amount of the defacement, damage and destruction was $400 or more.”

If Garcia is found guilty, he could face a fine as well as up to one year in prison.

His next court appearance is scheduled for August 7 at Los Angeles Airport Court.

Following his initial arrest, the Beverly Hills Police Department released a statement regarding the call received from the hotel that led to Garcia’s detention.

“On June 8, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to a call for service for an ‘intoxicated person’ at 9850 Wilshire Boulevard (Waldorf Astoria),” Beverly Hills police said in June. “During the investigation, the intoxicated person was identified as Ryan Garcia. Upon obtaining statements from hotel management, it was determined that Mr. Garcia was a registered guest of the hotel and had caused damage to a guest room and the hotel hallway. Hotel management requested Mr. Garcia’s arrest for property damage.”

“Ryan Garcia, 25, of Porter Ranch, California, was arrested for PC 594(b)(1) – Felony and was transported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for medical care.”

Garcia was eventually charged with minor vandalism rather than a felony, as he had allegedly caused an estimated $15,000 in damages to the hotel

Shortly after the charges against him were announced, Garcia declared on Twitter that “I will not be going to jail under any circumstances.”

Garcia has endured a tough last few months after perhaps the biggest win of his career — a unanimous decision win over Devin Haney — but was forced out of competition after he tested positive for the banned substance ostarine, which led to him being suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission.

Garcia was also expelled by the WBC for making racist comments on social media.
