Citywide update as of 8:30 a.m. June 4

Midtown/Downtown Water Pressure Check

All operations in the City are operating normally, including the airport, municipal court, Atlanta City Detention Center and E911 operations. Our critical infrastructure, such as Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory Midtown Hospital, are maintaining moderate to normal stress levels and are fully operational. The Fulton County Jail is also operating at normal stress levels. Hotels are reporting normal conditions and are ready to accommodate their guests as usual.

West Peachtree Street and 11th Street Update: Repairs ongoing

Our team continued to work through the night. By 6:26 a.m., the 30-inch pipe has been successfully placed into the pit, and our team is ready to proceed with the installation and conduct the remaining steps to complete and restore water service.

The Watershed Management Department will follow its flushing protocol for the system as a precaution and will sample the affected areas to confirm there is no contamination in the system. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division will advise the Watershed Management Department when the advisory can be lifted.

Crews completed several rounds of repairs to aging pipes at the junction of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and J.P. Brawley Dr.

Road closure: West Peachtree Street NE

from 10th Street NE to 12th Street NE

WhatThe City of Atlanta Department of Transportation has closed the road on a portion of West Peachtree Street NE as Department of Watershed Management (DWM) crews complete repairs to a water main pipe at the corner of 11th Street NE and West Peachtree Street NE.

Where?: West Peachtree Street NE from north of 10th Street NE to 12th Street NE

When?The road will remain closed until repairs are complete.

Description,

West Peachtree Street NE is closed from north of 10th Street NE to 12th Street NE. Access to the bike lanes and sidewalks on the east side of the street will be restricted. The west side sidewalk on West Peachtree Street is open and accessible to the public after 12th Street NE, but is closed from 10th Street NE to 12th Street NE, where repairs are being conducted.

To maintain the safety of the work crew and the public, we ask that pedestrians, e-scooter riders, and bicyclists avoid entering the construction zone between 10th Street NE and 12th Street NE. Please keep the construction zone clear of all traffic as crews work to repair the water main and restore water service to the surrounding community.

Atlanta Fire Rescue Department

AFRD is providing a case of water to each household, which can be obtained from the following stations:

  • Station 1
  • Station 2
  • Station 10
  • Station 11
  • Station 15
  • Station 16

AFRD is also distributing water today, June 4, from 9am to 12pm at the following locations:

  • W Peachtree and 10th
  • W Peachtree and 12th
  • Peachtree Walk and the 11th

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Operations at the airport are normal. There is no impact due to the water problem.

Department of Parks and Recreation

Camp Best Friends Summer Camp is fully operational and running as scheduled.

City of Atlanta pools and splashpads will operate as scheduled.

Public Works Department

In partnership with Home Depot (McDonough) and Publix, the Department of Public Works distributed 24K water bottles (24 pallets) over three days to senior residents, one of the area’s most vulnerable populations. DPW delivered bottled water to the following senior housing facilities from Friday through Sunday: AG Roads, Booth Tower, Brannan Towers, City Lights Apartment Homes, Columbia Senior Residences at Edgewood, MLK Senior and The Veranda at Auburn Pointe.
